The first time I saw you on TV talking about your engagement to Chris Evans, I was instantly stunned and charmed in equal measure, so I was delighted when you landed the part of Rose in Doctor Who. Although I’ve enjoyed Doctor Who since the old series, you’ve turned me from a generic Who fan into a Rose Tyler fan. No companion had ever inspired me so much. Rose was something new: she could get inside the Doctor’s soul and change him, taught him what it is to be human, took his ideals as her own, and saved the world off her own initiative when he couldn’t. His comrade-in-arms, healer, guiding light, apostle and saviour, the love of his life and the one person in the whole universe that he believes in. Their bond is unique, unprecedented and still rather mysterious. Who’d have thought this shopgirl-next-door would capture the heart of a Time Lord? (And mine.)
